This role is based in Melbourne, VIC, Australia.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing two small teams of software engineers who design and implement software to reduce risk.
  • Owning the strategy and roadmap for both teams, balancing security and developer experience.
  • Coaching and developing engineers with regular feedback.
  • Owning the team’s development methodology including sprint planning and retrospectives.
  • Driving adoption of security systems across Canva engineering teams.

Required Experience:

  • Experience managing a high-performing team.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals and ability to contribute to complex software architecture.
  • Experience partnering with software engineering, SRE/DevOps, and compliance teams.
  • Proficiency in languages such as Golang, Java, or Rust.
  • Experience in building and operating cloud-based services.

Nice to Haves:

  • Experience in a security domain (application sandboxing, encryption, etc).
  • Understanding of the security products industry.
  • Experience with infrastructure tools like Terraform, Helm, or K8s.
  • Experience with CI/CD systems.
