Senior Engineering Manager (BE/ML) - Context & Personalisation

This role is based in Melbourne, VIC, Australia.

Responsibilities:

Lead and coach a multidisciplinary team of backend and machine learning engineers.

Define and deliver the strategy for Canva’s centralised context platform.

Develop capabilities such as AI Memory and brand-aware AI generation.

Design scalable APIs for internal teams.

Partner with Product and Design leaders to enhance AI experiences.

Drive adoption of context and personalisation capabilities across Canva.

Requirements:

• Experience in engineering leadership, platform systems, or shared services.
• Strong technical depth combined with product thinking.
• Experience with AI, machine learning, or data-driven platforms.
• Ability to operate in high-ambiguity environments.
• Passion for developing engineers and building high-performing teams.

Nice to have:

• Experience with context systems or recommendation engines.
• Experience in high-growth product environments.
