Engineering Manager, Cloud Infrastructure Automation

This role is based in San Francisco.

Compensation:

$405K – $490K + Offers Equity

Responsibilities:

  • Build, lead, and grow high-performing infrastructure engineering teams.
  • Own the evolution of OpenAI’s Kubernetes platform, including cluster lifecycle, upgrades, and safety mechanisms.
  • Drive infrastructure automation using Terraform and internal tooling.
  • Establish clear ownership boundaries and technical direction.

Requirements:

  • Significant experience managing infrastructure or platform engineering teams.
  • Deep understanding of Kubernetes and distributed systems.
  • Experience with production infrastructure under strict reliability and security requirements.

Technical Environment:

  • Kubernetes across many clusters and regions
  • Service mesh (Istio / Envoy)
  • Infrastructure-as-code (Terraform)
  • Observability via metrics, logging, and tracing
