Thermal Engineer Intern
At Reality Labs we aim to bring together the brightest cross-disciplinary minds in one place to deliver on our mission: build tools that help people feel connected, anytime, anywhere. As a Thermal Design Engineering Intern, you will take a critical role in developing systems for VR, AR, Smart Glasses and Wearables, or New Technology Initiatives. You will be part of a team exploring and developing consumer electronics products over the full lifecycle, from prototypes to mass-production. You will work as part of a cross functional team requiring collaboration and curiosity in domains inside and outside thermal engineering.
Responsibilities
- Develop physics-based thermal models using programming languages such as MatLAB, Python, or Julia
- Develop part and sub-system thermal models using CFD and CAD tools
- Develop and optimize thermal designs while integrating new thermal technologies through partnering with mechanical and electrical engineers
- Support sub-system and system-level thermal verification through prototype testing
- Support the development of thermal control systems while building prototypes to test on physical HW
Minimum Qualifications
- Currently working towards a Bachelorโs degree in Mechanical Engineering with focus on Heat-Transfer / Thermodynamics
- Background in modeling using CAD and CFD tools
- Experience in running thermal tests using thermocouples
- Experience in programming with a scripting language such as MatLab, Python, or Julia, to support development of models and automation tools
- Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
- Intent to return to full-time degree program after completion of the internship
Preferred Qualifications
- Working towards a Masters or PhD with focus on Heat Transfer
- Experience developing analytical, physics-based thermal models
- Familiar with control theory
- Experienced in developing physical prototypes of consumer-electronics devices
- Familiar with thermal materials, such as graphite spreaders, aerogels, thermal interface materials, heatpipes, vapor-chambers, and fans
