As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. To do that, we need to solve complex engineering challenges and expand our infrastructure, while maintaining a universally accessible and useful experience that people around the world rely on. Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience with software development in C++ or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree in an industry setting.
  • 2 years of experience with developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage or hardware architecture.
  • 2 years of experience in performance optimization.
  • 1 year of experience with debugging, troubleshooting and monitoring systems.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical fields.
  • 2 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
  • Experience developing accessible technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Work on serving and indexing infrastructure that is currently serving millions, identify bottlenecks and deploy robust solutions.
  • Design, implement and execute a robust roll-out plan for the multiple components involved in model refreshes.
  • Work with clients inside and outside of Search to understand their requirements and define their deployment strategy.
  • Evaluate and analyze the performance of the various infrastructure components to identify their limitations and avenues for improvement.
  • Collaborate with software site reliability engineers and core on designing and implementing best practices to improve the existing Machine Learning (ML) infrastructure.
