Senior Frontend Engineer - Web Engine (Video Platform)

This role is based in Sydney, Australia.

What you’ll do:

• Own high-quality, frame-accurate video and audio playback on Canva’s web platform.
• Design and evolve the core architecture for scalable web playback.
• Build performance-critical systems beyond typical frontend abstractions.
• Drive resilient rendering and playback experiences across browsers and devices.
• Lead the adoption of next-generation playback technologies.
• Partner with product, editor, and platform teams to deliver playback capabilities.
• Improve playback quality, observability, and reliability for millions of users.

Requirements:

• Deep expertise in JavaScript at a systems level.
• Experience building video, audio, graphics, or game-like systems in the browser.
• Understanding of rendering pipelines, frame timing, and animation systems.
• Familiarity with canvas, workers, WebGL, WebAssembly, or modern multimedia APIs.
