This role is based in London, England, with a hybrid work model.

Responsibilities:

  • Coaching and mentoring a high-performing team of Machine Learning Engineers and Research Scientists.
  • Owning the evaluation infrastructure, including design, build, and maintenance of robust evaluation systems.
  • Building automated metrics to predict human aesthetic judgment.
  • Advising on human evaluation pipelines and model improvements.
  • Setting technical strategy aligned with Canva's AI and product goals.
  • Guiding engineering direction across model deployment and production systems.
  • Partnering cross-functionally to ensure ML capabilities translate into product impact.

Requirements:

  • Experience leading machine learning engineering teams.
  • Expert knowledge in deploying and scaling generative models.
  • Hands-on experience building ML infrastructure and evaluation pipelines.
  • Strong systems design skills and experience with MLOps.
  • Understanding of design principles to operationalize them as measurable signals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences.
