Engineering Manager - Native Video Engine

This role is based in Melbourne, VIC, Australia.

Responsibilities:

• Lead a team building Canva’s Native Video Engine (NVE).
• Drive strategy and execution across high-performance video rendering systems.
• Partner with various teams to deliver scalable video capabilities.
• Support the evolution of video infrastructure.
• Build a strong engineering culture focused on excellence and collaboration.
• Help engineers grow through coaching and mentoring.
• Improve engineering quality through performance monitoring and testing practices.

Requirements:

• Experience leading engineering teams in complex technical environments.
• Strong technical judgment balancing quality, performance, and delivery.
• Experience with video creation workflows and rendering systems.
• Ability to create clarity in ambiguous environments.
• Passion for building healthy and high-performing engineering cultures.

Nice to have:

• Experience with video processing, media pipelines, and cross-platform build systems.
