This role is based in Sydney, Australia.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Elements Experience team, delivering AI-powered content features across Canva's editor.
  • Set the technical vision for user content discovery and exploration.
  • Partner with Product, Design, and platform teams while mentoring engineers.
  • Use metrics and experimentation to drive decisions and build a culture of curiosity.
  • Maintain high standards for reliability and performance across services.
  • Support and grow a high-performing team of ~7 engineers.

Requirements:

  • Experience as an engineering leader across frontend, backend, and ML.
  • Ability to coach and develop engineers while shipping products.
  • Metrics-minded with a curiosity about user behavior.
  • Strong product sensibility and operational excellence.
  • Strategic direction-setting and hands-on technical support.
