Backend Engineer - International SG (Generative AI)

This role is based in Beijing, China.

Responsibilities:

• Build and maintain reliable, scalable backend services that support Canva’s generative AI experiences in China.
• Design and implement APIs, service integrations, and internal abstractions for AI-powered product capabilities.
• Integrate backend systems with global and local AI services.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to deliver high-quality AI experiences.
• Participate in code reviews and maintain a high-quality engineering culture.

Requirements:

• Proficiency in Java and backend development fundamentals.
• Experience building and maintaining scalable backend services in production.
• Strong focus on code quality and performance.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS, GCP) is a plus.
• Fluent in English and comfortable in a global context.
